Oh Salt and Peppa ... didn't even really know who you were when you were big. I was way too busy Surfin' in the USA. Seriously.
In any case ... I've got a plan in place for Hospital Hill Run!

What I Think About During Spin Class
Running.
Seriously. That's what I kept thinking about during spin class this morning.
Running in general.
Running the Hospital Hill Run 10K.
Doing speed work.
Wondering if my body can handle weekly speedwork sessions again.
The marathon.
Wondering if I can make it through marathon training.
Wondering if I can make it through the marathon itself.
Wondering what would happen if I had to drop out and then still had 4 days of vacationing in Ireland with my family.
Reflecting on how long 26.2 miles really is when you are on foot.
Again, wondering if the plan I have set in place is going to see me through this year.
Wondering if I've done enough. Knowing the answer is that I certainly could have done more.
What kind of shoes I should get.
If I should get two pairs of shoes.
Is it going to be raining? That will suck. Rain in October in Ireland will definitely suck.
Then ... of course ... the big one: how in the world did I forget to bring gym shoes AGAIN???
Oh well. Great sping class. A former coworker teaches it. She's a friggen fantastic fitness instructor. Fo' realz.

Weekly Workout Log
It's tardy and embarassing, but I'm keeping myself honest. Here's what went down last week:
Monday: Started out with so much potential. Went to the gym right after work, realized I forgot my socks but lifted anyway. Monday was an upper body day. I don't know why, but I'm a huge fan of bicep and tricep work. And back work. Hell, I love upper body days.
Tuesday: Date night with ICG. I introduced him to one of my favorite Asian restaurants in Kansas City - and to bubble tea. Bubble tea is awesome because 1) it's delicious and 2) it comes with snacks in the form of tapioca pearls. MMMMMMMM.
Wednesday: 23 minute swim. Considering switching my shorter runs during training to time in the pool. I think it will minimize my risk of injury ... which, lets face it, is more likely to happen than to not happen.
Thursday: St. Valentine's Day. ICG proved he's a keeper. He surprised me by sending flowers to work (they are SOOOOO pretty!) and then gave me a photo frame with 3 5x7s of us. Swoon.
Then we had heart shaped pizza.
Friday: I was finding any and every excuse in the book to not do legs. I don't know why, but I'm super insecure about doing legs in the weight area. I need to find a way to get over this.
Saturday: Side lined with a migraine plus ICG and I were glued to Netflix, watching House of Cards (if you love Kevin Spacey, I highly recommend it).
Sunday: Restorative Yoga. I liked this class.
Any suggestions or smack talk to help me get over my fear of lifting with the big boys?????

Congratulations on registering for the 40th annual Hospital Hill Run, you are now part of the oldest race in Kansas City!
Has anyone seen the track jackets yet? They look pretty amazing! Can't wait to show mine off - is it bad that I'll be hoping for some chilly days in June just so I can wear it??

Um, Eliz, WHERE ARE YOUR WORKOUT LOGS??!?!
Ok, ok, ok ... there is a reasonable explanation for most of this:
I simply forgot.
But while we are on the topic, I'll give you a brief overview of the past two weeks:
Stuck with the LiveFit trainer up through week 4. Really liked it, except there is one problem:
I need to start my 10K training and the LiveFit program isn't very running friendly. Most transformation programs aren't, really. But, that's ok. I've found something that I think will be great for me to do during my off-season - which is typically November through February.
In the meantime, I need to get my cardio in gear. So I've found an app on my new Windows phone (I think Microsoft finally got the Windows phone figured out, folks), and I'm happy with the mix of lifting and cardio that this one has. I can definitely train for a sub-60 10k and still build lean muscle that will carry me through marathon training.
And while we are on the topic of marathon training, I've got to tell you: I'm scared. Last year was a really tough year for me. All of the injury and DNFs in the spring really just killed my spirits, and my foolish 10 mile run in the fall didn't help my confidence.
I know that being scared isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've often heard that the things you are afraid of are the most worthwhile. I'm not sure if it applies to the fear of injury making it impossible for me to either start or finish 26.2 miles, but I keep telling myself it does. I know if I do this right, I will be able to do it. The problem is, I have no idea what is "right" for me. I'll have to figure it out along the way ... which leads me back to the being scared part. But, I've made my decision and I'm going to do it, so I'll just have to suck it up and try my best. That's all any of us can do anyway, right?
Yesterday, I met a friend for lunch at a place I've never been. I use Google maps for directions, and was given three different routes I could take. I chose route 2 because it was 26.2 miles. I mean, I couldn't really NOT chose 2 when it is that distance, right?
I'll do my best to keep up with my workout logs. Tonight, I'll be hitting my fitness center (don't need the gym for this one) for and upper body and 20 min cardio session. Jeff is enjoying looking out the window too much for me to go before it gets dark. I'm ok with that.
um ... tried to upload a photo for you all, but experiencing technical difficulties. Oh well.
I simply forgot.

Airport Security and Race Starting Lines
Yesterday, I was on my way home from a whirlwind trip to Atlanta (I literally had my car in parking for 1 day, 6 hours and 28 minutes ... or so the parking attendant told me).
For those of you who have never traveled to Atlanta, ATL is one of the busiest airports in the country, and it takes forever to get through security on a good day. While I was waiting in line, I noticed something.
Everyone was on their smartphones.
This isn't a phenomenon in our country these days. Our smartphones are our safety net. When we are alone, we can bury our noses in them and any and all awkwardness fades away.
But this observation made me think about how running makes everything so different.
Now, just give me a chance to make the connection.
At airport security, we are all waiting to do the same thing ... just like we are when we are at the starting line of a race.
We are waiting for someone to give us the go ahead to move forward on some type of journey.
We are often shedding clothes before we cross that "starting line".
We all have some type of paper showing that we belong where we are.
We leave our baggage in someone else's hands (well ... some of us do anyway).
Many of us are solo, and don't know the people standing next to us.
Really, there are a lot of similarities. But before the start of a race, I inevitably find myself chatting with someone else, if it's only witty comments about how hot or cold it is, where we hope to finish or even whether or not we really like the shoes/shorts/Garmin we are wearing.
There's comradery among runners, and for some weird reason, we embrace that whole-heartedly. I actually get annoyed when other runners don't wave at me as we pass ... but in airport security? Nope. We are perfectly content to stand there in silence.
Maybe it's because we are all nervous that we will get patted down (which, let's face it, is so awkward).
In any case, I guess I just wanted to say ... I'm glad I'm a runner.

Back Inside Eliz83's Head
[Unknown time]
I really have to pee. What time is it?
I really have to pee. What time is it?
5:36 AM.
Sigh. I can't wait until 6.
Seriously, Jeff, please just pee. I know the snow is confusing, but it's cold.
I'm tired. I'm going back to bed.
[7:00 AM]
mmmm ... these gummy vitamins are sooo good.
[8:09 AM]
Hey! A living social coupon to Drunkin Fish. I love sushi!
[12:00 PM]
My dog is so cute. I love him. I love him lots.
And, damn, my Windows phone takes great photos.
[12:35 PM]
I hate leaving him. Sad panda.
[2:30 PM]
ooooo my new RoadID has shipped.
[3:00 PM]
I miss trail running.
[3:30 PM]
I must not be getting enough fat in my diet. This avocado tastes WAY too good.
Why don't vegetables taste more like Peanut Butter M&Ms?

[4:00 PM]
I should write an inside my head blog.
[4:01 PM]
Now that I'm writing this, it seems kind of boring. Oh well. At least there is a picture of Jeff.
[4:02]
My boyfriend is so cute.
[5:15]
Brrrr.... Brrrr ...... Brrrr ....
[7:30]
Ok, here we go. Gym time. Lift like a boss.
[7:35]
WTH is a Hammer Strength Lat Pull? I'll Google that on my phone later.
Awwww snap. I'm curling 12s! And looking like a boss!
HTH can I hammer curl 12's but struggle to machine curl 15? Seriously, this is taking all kinds of effort!
Um ... where is this machine? I can't find it. Where is it, where is it?
I probably look like such a poser.
No. Way. In. Hell. I am not doing incline bench curls in the lifting area with all the Johnny Bravos. Nope. No way. Not happening.
I feel like such a badass when I'm working the biceps.
[8:35]
Yup. That was a good workout. Can barely lift my arms to wash my hair. Hurts so good.
[9:00]
I love snuggling with Jeff. He's so friggen adorable.
So is my boyfriend. Sigh.
[9:15]
